Windows Phone, Android follows Apple, implements “Kill Switch” option
Android and Windows Phone both are gearing up to implement “Kill Switch” option in their respective OS. Apple has already implemented the option for iPhone back in September which has resulted in 19% decrease in iPhone Thefts, cites the New York Attorney General.
Reports suggests that Google is all set to add the Kill Switch Feature in the next major Android Update. Microsoft has followed the same lead and both the companies have signed a legal agreement with New York Attorney General regarding the matter.
Google is already providing option to remotely wipe or lock the stolen devices, Track phones using GPS in the Android Device Manager. The Kill Switch is expected to be an added security feature which allows users to completely disable the device in case of thefts. The only way one can use the phone is by entering specific credentials.
There has been a steep increase in the smartphone thefts, owing to that, Google is expected to make major announcements on Kill Switch along with other features at the I/O Conference next week.
