Company’s flagship Le Max is yet to make a name for itself, however, the Le 1S has already shattered the sales figures. The phone has been talk of town in India for all the right reasons. The sleek design with metal body and premium specifications at the Rs. 11,000 price range has further made the mobile phone a lucrative buy.
Are you looking to buy LeEco Le 1S? Have confusion regarding the hardware and its performance, Camera Features, Benchmarks? Keep reading our LeTV / LeEco Le 1S Review.
LeTV / LeEco Le 1S has a very basic packaging. If you’re thinking that the Phone’s packaging will impress you than you are up for a surprise, just like us. It has an embossed phone like shape on top and LeTV branding on two of its sides. On the back are the usual packaging details.
In-the box accessories includes the phone, Charger, USB Type-C Cable, SIM removal pin and Quick start guide. There are no in-ear headphones inside.
The phone is quiet sturdy considering the Rs. 11,000 price bracket. It has metallic body with metallic sides and four rounded corners. It is made from aircraft-grade aluminium and has bezel-less ID and screw-less design. We have the Golden colour variant and it surely looks sleek and premium. Build quality is good but not great as the rear cover is prone to dents (see image), so be aware, rough users!
The top bezel sports LED notification light, ambient light sensor, Proximity sensor, Receiver and 5MP front camera. The phone’s display is of 5.5-Inchs and gives an illusion of bezel-less display when the screen is off. The bottom bezel has three capacitive buttons for multitasking, home and back. They light up only when the display is on.
On the back is the 13MP primary camera on the top left corner and is accompanied by LED Flash. There is a Mirror Glass Fingerprint Sensor on the back as well just above the LeTV branding. Golden plastic inserts on the top and bottom are also visible and are said to give improved reception.
The top side has 3.5mm Audio Jack and the IR Blaster. The bottom side hosts dual speaker grills of which the right one actually has the speakers. The left grill houses primary microphone. The bottom centre is USB Type-C port as well for charging and data transfer.
On the left side is Dual SIM slots with Dual Standby. Dual SIM slots include a Micro SIM and Nano SIM, both supporting 4G-LTE networks (Bands Bands 1 / 3 / 7 / 38 / 39 / 40 / 41). On the right side are the volume buttons and power / unlock buttons. The mobile has height of 151.1 mm, width of 74.2 mm, thickness of 7.5 mm and weight 169 Grams.
The Le 1S features a 5.5-Inch In-Cell Capacitive Touch screen. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for added scratch resistance. The display is great and totally over ranks our expectation. It has 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and produces 500 nits brightness. It also supports 10 point multi-touch as well.
Indoor and outdoor viewing was fine. We did notice a little over saturation of colours at default display settings, but is fixable by changing settings to natural. The screen has 403ppi pixel density and has wide viewing angles as well. The whites are white and black are black and matches the side bezels to give larger screen effect when the screen is turned off.
Processor, GPU and RAM
The phone gets the processing power from 2.2GHz Octa Core Cortex-A53 MediaTek MT6795T Helio X10 Processor. The CPU is more than capable to compete with higher mid-range phones. We will go on with the benchmarks later on to give you a brief idea of its raw power.
The SoC also features PowerVR G6200 GPU for graphic performance. It is slightly under powered when compared with the CPU. LeTV / LeEco Le 1S price of Rs. 10,999 will surely make most ignore this negative point. GPU benchmarks failed to impress us but rest assured, it did play most of the games with no / least lag. Untrained eye might not even notice any.
The handset comes with 3GB of RAM of which around 1.65GB is free. We expected the amount of free RAM to be more. Multi-tasking is smooth and lag free as well and comes with one-click process to close apps.
LE 1S Camera features include 13MP rear camera. It has LED Flash, Samsung ISOCELL 1/3.1-Inch Sensor with F/2.0 Aperture and blue glass infrared filter that takes classy images. The main shooter on the back has Phased Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) that focuses in just 0.09 seconds, manual Focus and Touch Focus are also supported. This camera is capable of having 6 X Digital Zooming.
It also has 5MP selfie shooter on the front as well. Front camera is just OK and does the job. It comes with F/2.0 Aperture and 85-degree wide angle lens.
Camera interface is quiet simple to go with. There are 4 modes – Slo-Mo, Video, Photo and Pano (Panorama). It also has pre-defined enhancements like Mono, Nature, Tonal, Warm, Normal, Chrome, Lomo, Cold and Gorgeous. Camera settings menu will fetch you Delayed Photos, Shutter sound, Store Location, Exposure, Picture Size, White Balance, iSO and Contrast settings. Users can also download a different camera application if they find the default one in-adequate.
Adjusting exposure is not very intuitive or easy. Low light conditions will easily add extra noise to the photos. Amateur photographers won’t complain much though. Check out our camera samples.
Operating System and UI
The LeEco LE 1S (Le X507) runs on Android 5.0.2 operating system. The OS is overlapped with EUI user interface. The UI offers many customizations but might seem complicated to a new user. The cellphone has all major Google Apps and no bloatware (apart from company’s My Letv).
The EUI has flatter iOS feeling where all the Apps are placed on multiple home screens. Three capacitive touch buttons light up once the screen is on. The drop down menu shows time and notifications, bottom is settings button, that will lead you to Application settings, strange!!. The Phone settings widget at the top is missing, which might be negative point for the most.
Phone settings are accessible from the Settings icon or by going into multitasking screen (left capacitive button). It has a quick control panel, quick music player, Settings panel and multitasking windows. Moreover, users can switch to other running apps or close than just by pressing a single key (also frees up RAM).
The cellphone also sports an IR blaster that can be easily configured to access most IR controllable devices, Set-top-boxes, Air Conditioners, Televisions, Projectors, DVD Players etc. It is easily to Fingerprints to unlock the phones. They can also be used to click pictures. Keypad / Keyboard is default.
Long pressing the multi-tasking capacitive button pops up Widgets, Themes and Wallpapers. Widgets can easily be placed on home screen and are adjustable in sizes. LeTV / LeEco has include many themes as well which users can choose according to their liking. Images can be set to wallpapers and lock screens.
Storage, Battery and Connectivity
This mobile phone comes in 16GB and 32GB of on-board storage. There is no MicroSD card slot for further storage expansion. We have the 32GB storage model that has around 24.40GB is user available.
It has 3000 mAh Li-Polymer battery inside that supports fast charging. It comes with 24-watt charger with Type-C cable to facilitate fast charging. Around 25 minutes of charging did give us couple of hours’ worth usage while the full battery can easily last up to 24-30 hours of moderate use.
Connectivity options won’t disappoint you. It has Dual SIM (Micro SIM + Nano SIM) and both of them support 4G-LTE. It also includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wireless Display and Dual Band. It also comes with Bluetooth V4.1 with A2DP / LE support along with GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS / Beidou. It has USB Type-C port, IR Blaster, FM Radio and 3.5mm Audio Jack as well.
Gaming and Benchmarks
The term ‘Value for money phone’ is well defined here. For what the Le 1S sell for, its bench mark won’t disappoint you. Phone benchmarks are a means to raw power of the mobile and how its CPU, GPU and RAM utilization works out.
We ran all the popular benchmark tools on Earth 1. They include Quadrant, AnTuTu 6.0.1, GFX bench, GeekBench, , Vellamo (Browser, Metal, Multi-core), Basemark OS2, BasermarkX, 3D Mark and Nenamark2.
|Quadrant||25258 (CPU: 101021 / Mem: 11921 / I/O: 10555 / 2D: 485 / 3D: 2310)|
|Nenamark2 V2.4||58.7 Fps|
|BaseX Mark (Medium)|
|BaseMark OS||1016 (System: 1696 / Memory: 1218 / Graphics: 644 / Web: 802)|
|Geekbench 3||Single Core: 976 / Multi-Core: 5229|
|GFX Bench||Manhattan: 449 Frames (7.2 Fps) / 1080p Manhattan Offscrean: 296.2 Frames (4.8 Fps) / T-Rex: 1019 Frames (185Fps) / 1080p T-Rex Offscreen: 1056 Frames (19 Fps)|
This cellphone scores well when it comes to processing and RAM utilization however, it was a slight let down in Graphics performance. Phone’s PowerVR Rogue G6200 GPU failed to impress us, at least in benchmarks.
On that not, let us talk about gaming on Le 1S. We played NOVA 3 and Modern Combat 5. Both of them run well but there were bits and pieces of lag here and there. This could be the next part loading or its underpowered GPU. Handset stayed cool and we didn’t notice much of heating issues.
Casual gamers need not to worry. It will run all the games for Android, some fluently, some with slight lag. Loading times are fast.
It’s time for our conclusion. Let us tell you again, the LeTV / LeEco Le 1S is available in India exclusively on Flipkart for Rs. 10,999. At this price-point, it definitely seems a lucrative buy. Performance is great, Build quality is good (highly above average) and the sound output is also loud considering that it has single speaker.
We have some doubts on the After Sale service for LeEco phones thou. Company has recently entered Indian markets with 1S and Max phones. Value for money factor is the key driver here and will not disappoint you. This mobile easily comes close to OnePlus One when compared in terms of performance.
If you are looking for mid-range phones with power, you can surely buy Le 1S but the device has its own pro’s and con’s . What do you think? Is it worth it? Do share your thoughts and leave your comments bellow.
