Android 4.4 KitKat features, new Improvements and availability

Googles latest version, the Android 4.4 KitKat OS is announced with Nexus 5. The name was previously rumoured to be Key Lime Pie but Tech giant Google and confectionery major Nestlé have joined hands and come up with Android 4.4 KitKat OS. All the previous OS versions had a Launch device platform and for 4.4 KitKat, LG manufactured Google Nexus 5 is the Device.

According to the company, Android 4.4 KitKat OS is fully optimized with numerous improvement, tweak as well as bringing in new features for both, users and Application Developers.

Android 4.4 KitKat Features include

  • Phones running on Android 4.4 KitKat will see all New Dialer system that will suggest people who are frequently in touch or those people more likely to be called.
  • Smart Caller ID will pull out caller details from huge Google Database containing Contact number and Address details even when the Contact number is not stored in the Phone.
  • Android 4.4 KitKat will be heaven for both high end as well as budget devices. OS will run smoothly even on devices with 512MB of RAM. There is improved touch responsiveness and optimized multi-tasking.
  • OS interface has been changed from cyan to white/grey which will reduce the resource usage.
  • Icons have a flat design, improved lock screen and all new boot screen.
  • OS brings in completely new way to access Google Now. Nexus 5 users can access the Google Personal assistant just by saying a phrase “OK, Google”. On other devices, users can swipe from home screen to get Google now and speak out the phrase.
  • Google Personal Assistant is 25% more accurate and will respond back.
  • Social IM service Google Hangouts will allow sending Text Messages and MMS within the Interface and will thread all conversations. Users will be able to brighten the video chat sessions as well.
  • Android 4.4 KitKat features all new Immersion Mode which will hide the navigation buttons when the application is best for full screen. One can swipe form the edges of display to bring back the navigation.
  • Stock Keyboard in 4.4 KitKat OS gets Emoji – Colourful Japanese Symbols
  • Storage Access Framework now lets the users access Files or documents to/from phone/tablet from variety of storage services like Google Drive by showing recent files.
  • Users will be able to print (Wireless Printing) photos, documents etc. from Android 4.4 KitKat based devices on printers supporting Google Cloud printing.
  • Android 4.4 KitKat will feature Screen Recording through a utility that will capture videos on device supported resolution. All the videos will be recorded in MP4 format.

Availability of Android 4.4 KitKat

Google Nexus 5 is the flagship device for Android 4.4 KitKat. The device is already available on Google play store for $349 in U.S., U.K., Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Spain, Italy, Korea and Japan. Nexus 5 is expected to reach India Soon for Rs 28,999.

HTC has said that, HTC One Google Play Edition will be receiving Android 4.4 Updated in 15 Days. Other Devices that are due for update soon are Nexus 10, Nexus7, Nexus 4, and Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition. Devices are expected to get the updates soon.
